Pele is a larger train style kiln with a bourry box for easy stoking and efficient wood use. We have adjusted the firing style of the bourry to achive a "juicier", ashier look, more commonly associated with kilns like Anagamas.

This kiln was designed by Donvan Palmquist as part of a workshop for the 2006 National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) Confrence. In a remarkably few firings this kiln has shown it's true colors producing the beautiful earthtones of wood ash on clay. Most pottery that goes into this kiln bare of glazes but it comes out with a wide range of lovely vibrant browns, golds, and ambers. This kiln can hold 100 cubic feet of ware. It takes upward of 72 hours to fire with two person shifts working round the clock.
